I’m very excited, as tomorrow morning, I’m heading to Fiji for a week with my amazing fiance, Matthew. Although we currently live on the beautiful Bondi Beach in Australia, we haven’t had a “real” vacation together in a couple years. And although I’ve been back home to Canada a few times since moving here almost 2 years ago, I’ve pretty much been online and “on-call” every time. So needless to say, I’m really excited to unwind and reconnect with my partner (and myself) in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
I’ve packed a good book (The God of Small Things), and look forward to lazy days on the beach or swinging in the hammock. We’ve borrowed snorkel gear from friends and I can’t wait to swim and play with real-life “Nemo” clown-fish. Maybe even a sea turtle, if I’m lucky! I’m especially looking forward to visiting the local village. We’ve prepared 50 gift bags for the school children, with stickers, pencils and small toys inside. Can’t wait to hand those out!
Best of all (and perhaps most important to a vegan foodie): the staff at our resort has agreed to prepare lovely island-inspired vegan food for me the whole time that I’m there. I’ve been looking to detox anyway, so I really don’t mind if I spend the next week just eating incredibly fresh fruit and veggies – with a bit of rice here and there. I’ve never drank from a real coconut, so I’m really looking forward to drinking fresh coconut water, which is so good for you.
I’ll be taking lots of pictures and will write a post about my experience when I’m back! Unfortunately, I’ll miss the first week of Vegan Mofo, but I’ll do my best to catch-up with everyone when I’m back, as well as post some new goodies of my own.
